Lodging on school property: Stay right at the school, in one of our clean and convenient rooms or apartments! For those wishing more independence, who want to make their own mealtimes, or simply want to stay in some of the best lodging at an extremely low price, staying in one of our rooms or apartments is a good choice. It is difficult to find inexpensive apartments without signing a long contract in Antigua, but we have several only for our students. Our rooms and apartments are available for either short-term or long-term rental, and include complete cleaning service. Meals are not included, but our cook can purchase and prepare meals for a small surcharge. Please note that our apartments and rooms go quickly, and it is not uncommon for us to be booked three months in advance. If this lodging option is chosen, we will notify you if your first choice is not available. For those coming with babies, cribs are available with advanced notice.

Private Room at School: There are two rooms available. Each is equipped with: a large bed (an extra single bed is possible), table, chair, reading lamp, clock, and wardrobe or dresser for storing clothes. The rooms all have private entranceways from a semi-private section of the main house, which is usable anytime, and only to our students and other guests. All toilets are private, and soap and towels are included. There is a small refrigerator available for use, located in the kitchen, which is fully-equipped with: dishware, shelving, oven, refrigerator, microwave, blender, toaster, and more. Each guest in our rooms has access to our Internet café, and there is a cable in the room for 24-hour a day access with Wi-Fi capability as well). There is an inexpensive laundry right at the school. Simply drop off your laundry in the morning, and it is ready the same or the next day. Room cleaning service is also available at no extra charge.

Apartment on school property:
Your immaculate, safe, and comfortable surroundings are only amplified by: televisions & DVD players, floor to ceiling closets, large beds, pillows, blankets, 100% Egyptian cotton 250+ thread count bed sheets, 100% cotton towels, furniture, and more!

Standard apartments: There are three options, the standard, deluxe, and extra deluxe. The colonial charms of Guatemala are splendidly meshed with modern day conveniences in all of these options. The apartments all have private entranceways from a semi-private section of the main house, which is usable anytime, and only to our students and other guests. Each apartment has: a private bathroom with hot water, with soap and towels, one or two large beds, spacious floor to ceiling closets, table, chair, reading lamp, fresh towels and sheets, cable TV, DVD player (free DVD rentals!), and continuous high-speed Internet access! Those staying in an apartment also have access to our Internet café and kitchen facilities, cleaning included. The kitchen is fully stocked with cutlery, dishes, and glasses, and has: an oven, stove, microwave, blender, refrigerator, and more. Meals can be served for a nominal weekly fee. Cleaning and laundry services are included free of charge!

All apartments are similar to studio apartments: the living area is the same as the bedroom area as the rooms are large. Yet in keeping with Guatemalan norms, the kitchen is all separate (i.e. neither in the same room as where the beds are, nor attached to the apartments), but under the same roof on the estate. Since there are only three apartments, they are not always occupied, and students often choose to eat in one of the many good yet inexpensive restaurants, all apartment occupants share one of the large kitchens.

Deluxe apartment: The two available deluxe apartments are well decorated in traditional style, and in addition to the features of the standard apartments, have an extremely large room, extensive floor to ceiling shelving, private refrigerator, large bathroom with hot water. One has a wall of windows, with a great view of volcano Agua, the other a large private balcony.

Extra deluxe apartment: The same amenities as the deluxe, the extra deluxe is great for couples wishing to have a special time, business people, or families. This apartment has a bedroom with private bath and all the features of the other apartments. There is also a small work area with desk, and a printer is available free of charge upon request (print cartridges not included). Next to the work area is a separate living room with couch and additional TV and DVD player adjacent to a private, fully-equipped kitchen. Ionic air purifiers and fans are also included. The living room can have an extra large bed for families or groups. This apartment also has a great view of volcano Agua.

Please note that in Antigua there are usually several notices advertising apartments for rent for between $300 and $400 per month. While many of these apartments may be fine, they can often have shared access, cold water, or unsanitary conditions. Apartments may also be found through a real estate agency for as low as $450 per month (although $500-$600 is the norm). These are usually good apartments, and upon arrival we can refer you to many local agencies willing to assist you in locating an apartment. The owners of these apartments, however, usually require a minimum commitment of 6 months.

School-sponsored lodging
CLI take great pride in working with some of the best families in Antigua. Our homestays and student houses offer a great cultural exchange and our homes with teachers offer our students the maximum opportunity to learn Spanish. The quality, prices and positive atmosphere of the following lodging options are guaranteed by CLI.

Home Stay:
Home stays are a wonderful way to really become a part of the Guatemalan culture. We have carefully chosen several local families to host our students. Our selection is based on cleanliness, comfort, and safety and all are within walking distance of the school and town center, as the school is located in Central Antigua. Normally, one or two other students will be staying in the same house as you, but rooms are private, and requests for staying by yourself with the family or with other students who do not speak your native language, can be honored with advanced notice. Those wishing to share a room still pay the same price per person, although students bringing children less than five years of age can often receive a 50% discount for them. All home stays include three meals per day, except Sundays and certain special holidays. Vegetarian meal plans are readily available, and special dietary requests can be arranged. Home stay lodging can also be taken without meals. Towels and personal toiletries are not supplied, although sheets and linens are. Home stays with private baths are limited, so if possible, please make reservations in advance.

Student House: Similar to a home stay but with more independence and more opportunities to meet friends, our student hostels are usually owned by a Guatemalan grandmother, but may be run by families. There are other students (usually 3-6) and most rooms are private and there are usually no young children, just a cook or cleaning person, so it is quiet. The grandmothers or cook also may take their meals with the students, and make them speak Spanish so it is a great advantage (plus they are fantastic cooks!) Like the home stays, three meals per day (except Sundays) are included in the price. Vegetarian and special dietary requests can be accommodated.

Live with Teacher: A unique option, living with a teacher enables you to truly immerse yourself in the Guatemalan culture. In addition, students have continuous exposure to Spanish, with a teacher nearby. Up to ten additional tutoring hours may be taken each week. Students generally stay with a different teacher than the one giving the lessons. All stays with teachers include three meals per day, except Sundays.

Other lodging
The following kinds of lodging are options some of our students prefer. CLI has a list of hotels, Bed & Breakfasts and hostels to offer our students who want a more individual-type of lodging during their stay. If you would like more information on any of these options, please let us know. While CLI has agreements with some of these options and can sometimes get special prices for our students, CLI cannot guarantee the quality or prices of these options.

Hotel: There are several hotels in Antigua from which you can choose, ranging from low budget backpackers' hostels to the beautifully restored historic colonial hotels. There are many budget rooms available, but we have selected from among the best according to amenities and price (although of course you may choose from any of several others in Antigua). Each budget room usually has one or two beds, a desk, and a shared bathroom. For those wishing a historically rewarding and especially charming stay, all at a moderate cost, there are several wonderful places in Antigua. Typical of the upper-end hotels and posadas are large rooms with two beds, private shower and/or bath, and cafes or restaurants. Some even have fireplaces, fountains, pools, and magnificent rooftop terraces. For specific needs, please contact_us and we can arrange a pleasant stay at the hotel of your choice. We can also make your reservations for you and at a discount rate, as we have arrangements with many of Antigua's better hotels. Please note that it may take several days to confirm a hotel reservation.

Bed and Breakfast: This type of lodging is similar to staying at a hotel, but these private rooms are a bit bigger and breakfast is included. Each room contains a desk, reading lamp, dresser, and cabinet for clothes. There is also a private bathroom in each room. Usually there are large, beautiful semi-private gardens, as bed and breakfasts tend to be more secluded than hotels (although are still located in the center of Antigua).

Student Hostel: Student hostels offer a lodging option for the traveler on a budget! Rooms in a hostel in Antigua can be private or shared, with bathrooms ensuite or shared. They are usually located near or in the center of the town, and the price generally includes breakfast. Hot water is available as well.

***Pictures appearing above are examples of lodging options only. CLI places students in the lodging they request - however, it is not always possible. We appreciate your understanding. ***
